UTAS “The Forest” Building – Practical Completion

O.P. Industries is pleased to have reached Practical Completion on the University of Tasmania’s The Forest Building redevelopment in Hobart.

The project involved the sensitive refurbishment of the heritage-listed former Forestry Building into a contemporary education and learning facility, incorporating a fully enclosed internal forest beneath the original glass dome. The works required careful integration of modern mechanical systems within an existing structure while preserving the building’s architectural and historical significance.

O.P. Industries delivered the mechanical services scope, including high-efficiency, fully electrified heating and cooling systems designed to support long-term energy performance, occupant comfort and sustainability outcomes. The project demanded a high level of coordination within a constrained site and live urban environment, alongside close collaboration with the project team.

Delivered in partnership with Hansen Yuncken, the Forest Building represents a significant addition to UTAS’s inner-city campus and reflects a shared commitment to sustainable, forward-thinking infrastructure.
